Z-Wave Long Range abandons the mesh in favour of a direct point-to-point link with far greater reach — useful where a device sits well beyond the last mains node, such as a gate, well pump or outbuilding.

When LR is the right answer

• Distant outbuildings — a garage, gate or store beyond normal mesh range.
• No intermediate devices — standard Z-Wave needs mains nodes between hops; LR does not.
• Farms and large plots — pump and irrigation control across a site.
