A smart bulb is the least invasive route to smart lighting: swap the lamp and you are done, with no wiring and no wall switch changes. The trade-off is that the bulb loses power if someone turns the switch off at the wall.

Bulb or relay?

• Choose a bulb when you rent, cannot alter wiring, or want colour and colour-temperature control.
• Choose a relay when the wall switch will still be used normally, since a relay keeps working regardless.
• Tunable white — shifts from warm evening light to cool daylight, useful in kitchens and workspaces.
