Choosing a plug

• Power measurement (PM) — reports live and cumulative consumption, so you can see what an old fridge or AC unit actually costs to run.
• Outdoor models — weather-sealed for garden lighting and pumps.
• Wave versions — Z-Wave rather than Wi-Fi, for an existing Z-Wave network.
• Load rating — check the plug's maximum against high-draw appliances such as heaters.
